The Pregnant Diaries - Weeks 20 & 21

Name reveal!

So, it didn't take us long to find a name that we liked for a little baby boy. I was seriously thinking that we would have to name him as soon as he entered this world...but it turns out we landed a name about 2 days after the ultrasound.

His name will be Cove Toy Yoder.

Paul suggested the name, although I'm not sure if he suggested it as a joke at first or was seriously considering it. I took him seriously on it and added it to the name list. I thought about it all day at work and when I got home I told him I really liked the name and wanted to stick with it. He contemplated another day and agreed.

The "Toy" comes from Paul's middle name. His family seems to have a habit of giving all of their kids the middle name of Toy. I don't know the nitty gritty details of how it came about, but I do know that his dad's last name was originally "Choy" and when his family came to the Americas it was then changed to be spelled as "Toy". His father adopted the last name of Yoder and thus Toy became a middle name (any of you Yoders out there can expound on this or correct me). We've decided that all of our boys will have the middle name of Toy to keep the tradition alive and to give all of our girls my middle name, to keep it fair. :)

Mah belly at 20 weeks. (Yes I know those pants don't match the shirt. I just tend to change my pants as soon as I get home from work. PJs are a blessing.)

During weeks 20 and 21 I have come to grow very fond of Cove's little kicks. He really likes to kick super low, around my pelvic area, but I assume that he will eventually learn how to flip himself over and start kicking more in the belly.

One moment I absolutely loved was when Paul was able to feel him. I tested it out first and for sure thought I felt the kick just by feeling my belly with my hand. I had Paul try. It was a precious moment seeing his eyes light up and get excited about our little baby. I try to involve him in any way I can with the growth of Cove, and I believe he appreciates it.

Sometimes his kicks tickle, depending on where he is kicking. If you are ticklish and having a baby...beware! It makes me giggle involuntarily. I've found that it tickles the most when we are going to sleep and I roll over to my side (you aren't supposed to sleep on your back because it cuts off blood flow to the baby). As soon as I'm on my side he'll kick in the spot that has the most contact with the bed. Sometimes I think that he likes to kick the places that have the most pressure on them. He'll kick right at where my waistband sits the most snug on my belly and he'll kick on the side making contact with a surface (such as the bed). Super cute. :)

I have found that leaning over has already started to become more taxing. Putting on socks is not my favorite thing anymore (although I'm not entirely sure it was my favorite thing to begin with). I have also received more bloody noses as well as stuffy noses during night time, making it really hard to breathe.

One book that I'm reading suggested that putting a pillow between your legs at night should help you with sleeping. I've tried it once and now do it every night. Pillows that are at least separating the knees from knocking into each other are the bomb.

All in all, I'm pretty proud of my belly. I'm not afraid to get fat, as long as it's in the right places. Haha.

How Big Is Cove?
At week 20, Cove is about as big as a cantaloupe. (Measured from head to bum, not roundness.)

At week 21 Cove is as big/long as a banana. (Measurements are now taken from head to toe.)

What's Icarus Been Up To?
These are more like pictures of what Paul has been doing to Icarus lately. Poor kitty.

How fun that you have decided on a name already! I think the first child is easy to name. We are having a hard time coming up with a name for our little one. It is so great to feel the baby kick isn't it?!? I love reading about your 'adventures' and seeing your progress. Soon our little ones will be here! :D

CUTE BELLY! You're finally starting to show! Cove is such a Paul name...I'm sure it will fit the baby perfectly. Mark made us give Luke the middle name of Toy, although I'm not much for tradition (He's our only kid that's going to have that middle name). You got the story pretty much right. Frank wasn't officially, legally adopted by the Yoders until he was an adult, so the Toy name stuck around for a long time and he gave that as a middle name to ALL his kids, girls and boys!

Feeling baby kicks are the best! Until they get so big that they just end up kicking you in the bladder, or the ribs, or your diaphragm...

LOVE the name! Although I had the same deal with David and the middle name for boys - you know how that turned out! Aaah, I miss baby kicks. Your belly is adorable!

That's awesome you guys decided on a name so quickly. We didn't pick Julie's until I was about 8 months I think... and even then we weren't postive. But it is so awesome you can feel his kicks, and that Paul can, too. Julie's placenta was positioned backwards which made it really tricky to feel her kicks... I think Arek only ever felt her kick once the whole pregnancy. As your tummy gets bigger, I found it ncie to put a small pillow under my tummy as well as between my knees... it helped relieve the pressure as I laid on my side
